Ryland Quillen Project 1

My company specializes in small to mid-size furniture pieces that are affordable and functional. We believe that affordability, quality, and craftsmanship are a necessity to our furniture. We strive to provide young professionals, first-time homebuyers, and people interested in design with design conscious furniture at a reasonable price.

The elements and principles of design that I felt that my piece incorporated were Line and Unity. The thick edges of my piece create a strong sense of line. My piece is unified by the mimicry of shapes and through the use of material.

To make this poster, I first set up my piece in the lightbox at Boundary Hall and took some pictures in various positions. I then edited my images in Adobe Lightroom and tweaked them in Photoshop. I used the image in the foreground also as a background by enlarging it slightly, mirroring the image, and changing the opacity. This helps balance the composition by equaling out the strong diagonals in the original image. I was inspired by a website that uses a thick outline on all of their images, so I used the Pen Tool to make a selection of my piece, grew the selection by 60 pixels, and filled it in with the Paint Tool. I also changed the opacity on this outline to make the outline less harsh and drastic.

The Layer Style I incorporated in my poster was a stroke around the text. I used a darker red to contrast with the outline around my piece and then lowered to opacity of the stroke to make it less harsh.
