FURN_390: Concepts and Context in Furniture Design


Course Description: This course focuses on advanced presentation techniques using creative problem solving, concept building, visualization, and research. Through lectures, discussions and exercises students develop, document and present design professional quality project materials that broaden their portfolios.

Course Goals: The following course goals articulate the general objectives and purpose of this course:

  • Conduct contextual research to identify, define, and design for the stylistic, pragmatic, and economic parameters of a target market.
  • Synthesize skills in sketching, rendering, and graphic layout to create dynamic, cohesive visual presentations that are appropriate to the project concept.
  • Develop strategic methods to create and deliver articulate, engaging oral presentations.
Course Outcomes: The following course outcomes indicate competencies and measurable skills that students develop as a result of completing this course:
  • Students will develop visual presentation skills
  • Students will develop verbal presentation skills
  • Students will learn accurate project documentation
  • Refresh and integrate basic computer programs, which will enhance the Students portfolio development
